Komi's Story

Pairs of Komi sitting on clouds.
10,000 feet up in the clouds there live a species of creatures called Komi. These nomadic cloud dwellers live amongst the clouds on every planet, migrating from cloud to cloud.

The Komi are a very empathetic species and have a culture of being selfless towards one another.

Many years ago one of the Komi saw a cartoon where a rain cloud followed a sad human everywhere the human went. This was the beginning of Komi folklore that the weather was affected by human's emotions.
Various Komi on different types of clouds with humans under them expressing different emotions. A sad Komi on a rain cloud with a sad human underneath. A happy Komi with a sun and a happy human underneath. A distressed Komi on a lightning cloud and an angry human underneath.
The lore continued to grow as the Komi established Humanology & Weatherology as the study of humans and their impact on the weather. The Komi theorized that human emotions are what created clouds, and that different emotions created different types of clouds.

In an effort to help the Komi community predict the weather, the Komi decided to send researchers to Earth to observe human emotions.

The first Komi researcher found that it had a high sensitivity to human feelings and could detect the moods and emotions of humans.

However, the Komi don't have experience with the nuances of human culture and therefore don't know why they express the emotions that they do and what causes them to do so.

The first few Komi researchers noticed a pattern and decided to focus their research on one of the most frequently observed human emotional responses: stress. Eventually they began to establish relationships with the humans and share the information they'd gathered to help the humans learn more about their emotional response too.

By forming these bonds, the Komi help humans recognize and manage their emotional responses and the humans help the Komi with their research and improving their lives in the clouds!
